Welcome to Get Lost Abroad!
I am Lien, a twenty-something travel addict from Belgium. Since my first trip oversea to Kenya in 2010 I have been bitten by the travel bug. Now I grab any opportunity to travel, either short-term or long-term. I love to travel slowly, interact with locals and taste the local street food. I started this website to share my backpacking experiences and travel advice to encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and travel the world too. In contradiction to what many people think, travelling does not necessarily need to be expensive. On my travel blog you find tips and tricks for specific destinations, general backpacking advice or maybe you find your next dream destination in one of the inspirational stories or photo essays if you don’t know where to go yet.
Despite my background in geology, I am not good at reading maps. I often get lost, take the train in the opposite direction or have trouble locating my hostel. For me, that is part of the adventure and some of the most memorable moments happened while I was lost…
When I am not travelling (unfortunately most of the time), you can find me at the university of Ghent where I am writing my PhD in applied biological science. In my spare time, I prefer to be both active and outside. I play football and hockey and feel most relaxed when I am surrounded by nature. This can either be hiking in the forests or taking an easy walk with my grandmother in the city park.
In the beginning of 2018, my boyfriend Wiebe and I will head off to Asia for several months. The preparations just started. For now, we know we will begin our journey in China and would like to volunteer in each country we visit.
